HAPPY LIBRA SEASON! Covenscopes by Vanessa Dunne

On September 22nd at 3:21pm, the Sun shifts out of Virgo and into the Libra, marking the official end of Summer with the Fall Equinox. It’s during this time we start really noticing the Sun setting earlier and the heat of the summer begins to dissipate into cool evenings. When the Sun is in Libra, it’s thought to be in it’s “fall”, or generally uncomfortable, and has to work harder to do it’s ~solar thing~. When we think about this time of year, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, the Sun begins to lose it’s staying power, the leaves begin to turn, and we begin to witness the beauty in change and letting go. Archetypally, Libra is all about balance, harmony, justice, and beauty. Represented by the scales, there is an innate need for Libra to bring balance (and justice) to all that it touches. Amplifying Libra Season this year, we have a Mercury Retrograde in Libra, beginning on September 27th at 1:10 am. While this Mercury Retrograde will impact everyone differently, we all want to pay attention to the themes in our lives that have come up between September 6th and September 27th, as they will likely be revisited, reviewed, or reconsidered during Mercury’s Retrograde journey. On October 9th, Mercury will be purified by the Sun, bringing about clarity to what may have once been confusing or reconsidered. While this phenomenon, called Cazimi, always happens during the Retrograde cycle, what makes this one more interesting is that it’s happening in tandem with Mars. Due to Mars’ influence and conjunction with both Mercury and the Sun, this level of clarity can come with sharp, direct, and/or passionate communication and mental processing.

Aside from Mercury’s Retrograde, on October 6th, we have our first lunation of Libra Season: the Libra New Moon, occurring at 13°25’. New Moons are wonderful times to set new intentions and prepare for the next Lunar Cycle, boding the question: what are you looking to manifest? What are you looking to grow in your life? Where are you seeking to add beauty or find balance? Because this New Moon is positioned close to Mars, the planet of passion and severance, you’re also given the opportunity to cut out that which does not fuel or serve you. Then, on October 20th, we get our second lunation of Libra Season: the Aries Full Moon, occurring at 27°26’. Contrastingly, Full Moon’s are a time of cultivation and letting go. The seeds of intention that we’ve planted have now bloomed and it’s time for harvesting. The Moon in Aries is hot, passionate, and bold; and given Mars is once again playing into the lunation, you’re able to cut off any last bits of dead weight that may be holding you back. Pluto, the planet of power and transformation, also plays into this Full Moon by way of a square aspect. Squares can be challenging because they require an action, but ultimately they can help relieve tension or light a fire for us to get something started. This Full Moon is p o w e r f u l. Embrace it.
